Episode 8 adapts Chapters 12–13 of the manga and introduces one of the series’ most memorable new characters, Beatrix Amerhauser, while continuing the group’s journey toward Akira’s hometown.

Story Summary

After leaving the previous town, Akira, Shizuka, and Kencho continue driving toward Gunma. Even during a zombie apocalypse, Akira refuses to stop enjoying life. Before continuing the journey, the friends even take time to complete another bucket-list activity by trying paddleboard yoga on a river.

This opening reminds viewers that Zom 100 is not simply about surviving zombies—it is about truly living.

A Truck Surrounded by Zombies

While driving, the group notices a truck trapped by dozens of zombies.

Akira immediately jumps out wearing his ridiculous shark costume, ready to save the driver.

Before he can attack, the truck door suddenly bursts open.

A mysterious samurai warrior appears and effortlessly defeats every zombie using:

• a katana,
• a spear,
• and a bow.

The action is fast, stylish, and surprisingly elegant.

After removing the helmet, the warrior turns out to be a cheerful German woman named Beatrix Amerhauser.

Who is Beatrix?

Beatrix explains that she has always loved Japanese culture.

She spent years saving money so she could travel across Japan after graduating from college.

Unfortunately, the zombie outbreak began almost immediately after she arrived.

Instead of returning home, she decided to continue her dream journey.

She learned to use traditional Japanese weapons and now travels dressed as a samurai.

Her personality is:

• energetic,
• optimistic,
• fearless,
• and deeply fascinated by Japanese traditions.

She instantly becomes one of the most entertaining members of the team.

Her Dream is Surprisingly Simple

Instead of searching for medicine or a safe shelter, Beatrix has a much more unusual goal.

She is transporting fresh fish because she promised a sushi chef she would bring quality ingredients.

In return, he promised to prepare authentic Japanese sushi for her.

At first:

• Shizuka thinks it is irresponsible.
• Kencho thinks it is ridiculous.

But Akira immediately understands.

Since eating amazing sushi is already on his own bucket list, he happily agrees to help.

This perfectly represents one of the show’s biggest themes:

Dreams still matter, even during the apocalypse.

Entering Zombie-Filled Takasaki

The group reaches Takasaki and discovers that the streets are packed with zombies.

Rather than charging in carelessly, Shizuka develops a smart strategy.

The plan involves:

• attracting zombies into a narrow alley,
• trapping them with vehicles,
• covering them with alcohol,
• then setting everything on fire.

The first attempt fails because their matches do not ignite.

For a moment, everything seems lost.

Eventually, the team improvises and successfully burns the zombie horde using Molotov cocktails while Akira and Beatrix protect the others.

Finally Eating Sushi

The group finds the sushi chef alive.

He prepares an incredible sushi feast using the fish that Beatrix delivered.

This becomes one of the happiest scenes in the series.

Beatrix becomes emotional because she finally achieves the dream she worked so hard for.

The sushi chef also decides to leave with them instead of staying behind.

The message is clear:

Small dreams can become precious during difficult times.

The Hot Spring Adventure

Later, the group discovers an abandoned hot spring resort.

Since nobody has taken a proper bath for days, everyone becomes excited.

Relaxing in a hot spring is another item on Akira’s bucket list.

Beatrix enthusiastically explains Japanese hot spring history and traditions.

The peaceful atmosphere allows the characters to relax after constant danger.

Akira’s Feelings for Shizuka

One of the most important emotional moments happens here.

Akira casually says that visiting a place like this would be wonderful with someone you love.

He quietly looks toward Shizuka.

Although he never openly confesses, viewers can clearly see that he has developed romantic feelings for her.

Shizuka responds very differently.

Because of painful memories involving her strict father and her logical personality, she says relationships often create more problems than benefits.

Her words disappoint Akira.

However, her reaction suggests she is protecting herself emotionally rather than rejecting him completely.

Zombies Invade the Hot Springs

Just when everyone believes they can finally relax, zombies suddenly appear inside the hot spring.

The peaceful resort instantly turns into another battlefield.

The group escapes into the mountains while the zombies amusingly end up soaking in the hot spring themselves.

This perfectly represents Zom 100’s balance between horror and comedy.

Character Development

Akira Tendou

Akira continues proving that life should be enjoyed instead of merely survived.

His willingness to help Beatrix demonstrates how much he values people’s dreams.

Shizuka Mikazuki

Shizuka remains the group’s strategist.

Although logical, Episode 8 reveals that her emotional walls come from painful experiences rather than coldness.

Kencho

Kencho supplies much of the comedy.

He is impressed by Beatrix almost immediately and enjoys every adventure despite the constant danger.

Beatrix Amerhauser

Episode 8 marks Beatrix’s debut, and she quickly becomes an important member of the group.

Her combination of:

• love for Japanese culture,
• incredible combat skills,
• optimism,
• and humor

creates fresh chemistry within the team.
