Episode 11, titled “Hometown of the Dead II,” is one of the most emotional and action-packed episodes of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. It combines intense zombie battles with emotional family moments and explores how people deal with regret, selfishness, and hope. The episode adapts Chapters 18–20 of the manga.
The Village Is Under Attack
The episode begins with Akira’s hometown in complete chaos. Kanta Higurashi and his gang have deliberately released zombies into the village to satisfy their twisted “bucket list.”
Unlike Akira, who created a bucket list to enjoy life and help others, Higurashi believes the apocalypse is an opportunity to spread misery and destroy the happiness of people he envies.
Everywhere in the village:
- Zombies attack homes.
- Families become separated.
- Villagers struggle to survive.
- Akira and his friends split up to rescue as many people as possible.
Akira Searches for His Parents
Akira desperately searches for his parents.
He eventually finds them hiding with other villagers inside a storage building. Before reaching them, he uses farming equipment as weapons against the zombies, showing that his courage has grown tremendously since Episode 1.
During the fight, Akira apologizes to his parents because he believes he never became the successful son they deserved.
This scene shows how much guilt he has carried since quitting his exhausting corporate job.
His Father’s Powerful Words
One of the most emotional moments comes from Akira’s father, Teruo Tendou.
Instead of blaming Akira, Teruo tells him that parents never expect repayment.
His message is simple:
The greatest way for a child to repay their parents is to keep living.
Teruo pushes Akira into safety and chooses to fight the zombies himself, proving his love through actions rather than words.
Kencho’s Battle
Kencho protects Anju and her rescued dog by taking them onto a rooftop.
There he faces one of Higurashi’s followers.
During the fight, Kencho points out that the villain’s failed marriage wasn’t caused by bad luck—it was caused by his own selfish behavior and refusal to take responsibility.
Instead of simply defeating his opponent physically, Kencho destroys his excuses.
Eventually, the villain panics, runs away, and dies after accidentally electrocuting himself.
Shizuka’s Character Growth
Earlier in the series, Shizuka always analyzed every situation logically.
In this episode she changes.
When elderly villagers refuse to leave because they believe they are only a burden, Shizuka risks her own life to distract zombies and save them.
This is important because she acts from compassion rather than pure logic.
Later she confronts another member of Higurashi’s gang, who blames all of his failures on bad luck.
Shizuka explains that luck is often created through kindness, cooperation, and the opportunities people give each other—not by selfishly expecting the world to reward you.
Beatrix’s Fight
Beatrix searches for the village’s water mill while fighting zombies with her swords.
She encounters another villain armed with a chainsaw.
Although one of her swords is destroyed, Beatrix stays calm.
She explains that every culture has different values, and forcing your beliefs onto others is wrong.
She cleverly escapes using the large water wheel while the villain is overwhelmed by zombies.
Higurashi’s Followers
One interesting part of the episode is that the villains receive brief flashbacks.
Each had:
- failed relationships,
- disappointing careers,
- or personal frustrations.
However, instead of accepting responsibility, they blamed society and chose cruelty.
The episode contrasts them with Akira’s group, who also suffered difficult lives but decided to become better people instead.
Teruo Faces Death
The emotional tension rises when Teruo continues fighting despite suffering from health problems.
He defeats many zombies but suddenly collapses from severe chest pain.
Before Akira can rescue him, Higurashi captures Teruo and uses him as a hostage.
Higurashi gives Akira a terrible choice:
- surrender himself to the zombies,
- or watch his father be fed to them.
